Watertown swimmers close strong, beat Milton
Watertown’s first and third place finishes in the 400 freestyle relay to close out the meet clinched an 89-81 Badger South dual meet win over Milton on Tuesday at the Riverside Middle School pool.
The Goslings led 79-77 heading into the final event of the night and outscored the visiting Red Hawks 10-4 to win by eight. The winning 400 freestyle relay team of senior Brendan Williams, junior Shaun McCloskey, freshman Liam McCloskey and sophomore Nathan Williams touched out in 3 minutes, 41.98 seconds. The third place team of junior Thomas van Zanten, senior Josh Vana, junior Anthony Smith and junior Austin Fuchs took third in 4:06.6.
“Tonight’s meet had some great competition for the athletes,” Watertown boys swim coach Samantha Calliari said. “The score was close to even the entire meet. Winning the 400 free relay at the end was a great way to finalize the win for the night.”
Watertown won five other events on the night.
The 200 medley relay team of senior Nathan Lampe, Nathan Williams, sophomore Zach Jaworski and Brendan Williams won in 1:51.33. Shaun McCloskey won the 200 freestyle in 2:05.67. Brendan Williams and Liam McCloskey finished first and second in the 50 freestyle in 24.30 and 25.48, respectively.
Liam McCloskey won the 500 freestyle in 5:49.60. Lampe won the 100 backstroke in 1:14.83.
Fuchs added a second place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.83) and a third place in the 200 freestyle (2:09.83). Shaun McCloskey took second in the 100 butterfly (1:02.03). Jaworski finished second in the 200 individual medley (2:22.53).
The 200 freestyle relay team of Nathan Williams, Liam McCloskey, Shaun McCloskey and Jaworski took second in 1:14.14. Nathan Williams added a third in the 100 backstroke in 1:08.69. Jaworski took third in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.69).
Watertown’s JV won 101-4.
The Goslings travel to Madison for a conference dual against Edgewood on Tuesday.
