Elderly Couple Fall, Spend Hours in Yard
TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ An elderly couple fell in their yard and remained helpless for hours until a county appraiser making his rounds found them.
The Rev. Ray Davis, 94, and his wife, Lois, 92, were in fair condition Friday at St. John Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Davis, who was outside for 38 hours, broke his arm when he fell Monday night as he went to feed his dog. His wife had fallen asleep and awakened late Tuesday morning to realize he was missing. Mrs. Davis, who uses a walker, fell after trying to help her husband and was on the ground for nearly a day.
The appraiser, Chuck Autry, found them Wednesday morning and said they were dehydrated.
″When I got there, I saw what I thought was a mannequin in the back yard,″ Autry said. ″I turned away slightly and that’s when I saw it move.″
Autry said the couple’s home is out of the way and the yard is difficult to see from the road. Temperatures during the couple’s ordeal climbed into the mid-90s.
