Former Griz QB named to College Football Hall of Fame
MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — Dave Dickenson, who led the University of Montana to its first NCAA Division I-AA national championship in 1995, is among 13 players and coaches who will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame this year.
Dickenson, coach of the Calgary Stampeders in the CFL, holds UM’s career passing record and is a member of the Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame. He won the Walter Payton Award for the best offensive player in I-AA in 1995.
Dickenson played professionally for 12 seasons, mostly in the CFL, where he led the B.C. Lions to the 2006 Grey Cup championship.
He has coached the Stampeders for two seasons, advancing to the Grey Cup both times. He was inducted into the CFL Hall of Fame in 2015 and was named the league’s coach of the year in 2016.
