New Canaan Police say social worker provided pot to juvenile
NEW CANAAN — An Ansonia social worker has been accused of providing marijuana to a juvenile in her care and failing to report possible neglect and abuse.
Kelly Howard, 32, of Park Place in Ansonia, was charged Thursday with failure by a mandated reporter to report abuse, sale of a controlled substance and illegal sale of tobacco to a minor.
New Canaan Police said they learned in March that a social worker, later identified as Howard, was making home visits to treat a young resident of New Canaan and was providing the juvenile under her care with marijuana and vape pods, and found evidence it was occurring during an investigation.
The investigation also found that Howard failed to report potential incidents of neglect and or abuse regarding the juvenile to the appropriate agencies.
Howard surrendered to police around 9:45 a.m. Thursday in response to a warrant for her arrested. She posted a $100,000 bond and is due in court May 21.
