Saturday Club learns about alpaca farm

May 4, 2019

The Saturday Club held its monthly meeting April 17 at the Rose Garden in Watertown.

Guest speaker Georgia Meyer, who runs the local alpaca farm Silver Creek Farm, described shearing time on the farm and the sorting of alpaca wool. Based on the sorting and grading, the wool is then sent to area mills for processing. The wool may be used for clothing, such as socks, sweaters and mittens, to pot scrubbers and bar soap holders.

Meyer has a store on her farm site that sells a variety of products. To learn more about her farm, visit www.silvercreekalpaca.com or call 920-210-0226.

A short business meeting followed the presentation, with a discussion on the installation of officers. The club’s scholarship selection has been completed. The club’s May meeting will include a memorial for departed members.

Hostesses for the meeting were Karin Hoeft and Judy Schumacher. The greeter was Helen Richter. Dorothy Field provided the invocation while Mary Ellen Christensen led the table prayer.

The Saturday Club’s next meeting will be held Wednesday, May 15, beginning at noon at Lindberg’s by the River. Those interested in learning more about the club or visiting a meeting can call Karin Hoeft at 262-719-9137 or Susie Braatz at 920-261-5218.
