76ers Activate Speedy Claxton

December 28, 2001

PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ The Philadelphia 76ers activated guard Speedy Claxton from the injured list and waived forward Michael Ruffin on Friday.

Claxton sat out eight games with a sprained left ankle, which he injured at Memphis on Dec. 8. Claxton, who has 10 starts this season and played in 19 games, is averaging 8.7 points and 3.4 assists.

The ankle injury happened when he collided with Memphis forward Grant Long while going up for a layup. Claxton went down among the cameramen near the basket, and play was stopped for several minutes while trainers checked him out.

A first-round pick, Claxton missed all of last season after tearing ligaments in his left knee during the preseason.

Ruffin played in 15 games for the Sixers, averaging 11.3 minutes. He was signed Nov. 23.
