Padres Exercise Option on Joyner
SAN DIEGO (AP) _ The San Diego Padres exercised the $3.75 million option Friday on first baseman Wally Joyner’s contract for the 1998 season.
Joyner had a career-high .327 batting average in 1997, finishing fifth in the National League. In his 12th season in the major leagues, Joyner also had 29 doubles, 13 home runs and 83 RBI in 135 games.
Joyner spent the past two seasons with San Diego after playing his first 10 major league seasons in the American League, six with California and four with Kansas City.
