Expos Pitcher Perez Breaks Nose
MONTREAL (AP) _ Montreal pitcher Carlos Perez was recuperating Monday from a broken nose sustained in a traffic accident after the Expos returned home from a weekend series at Milwaukee.
Perez is 7-10 with a 3.75 ERA in 23 starts. His status is day-to-day and the Expos are undecided whether he will make his next scheduled start Friday against San Diego.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash Sunday night, police said. An investigation into the collision will be finished in the next few days, Montreal police spokesman Christian Emond said.
Perez’s Mercedes apparently went out of control and struck a lamp post near Olympic Stadium. Emond said Perez was trying to avoid another car when the accident happened.
