Reeds share personal journey in dance

October 10, 2018

Misty and Tad Reed will dance their personal journey as a military couple at the Dancing with the Local Stars event on Oct. 13 at the Lincoln Hills Golf Club.

“Homecomings are so emotional and joyous, yet bittersweet, because not everyone gets to come home (from military service,” Misty said. “Our dance tells the story of his (Tad’s) homecoming.”

The couple is dancing to their wedding song as they’re approaching their 15th anniversary this month. The routine is full of emotion and love.

Misty said that the first time they danced to the song, Tad was shipped out to boot camp within a week. The song had meaning to them then as a newly married couple who were separated from one another, but it means even more now after 15 years of marriage and the growth of their family.

Tad and Misty went through four deployments, moving from duty station to duty station, and several separations.

“We are putting ourselves out there and telling our story,” Misty explained. “We had a difficult journey through the Army, and now we’re back home where we grew up and raising our babies, so there is much to celebrate.”

Dancing with the Local Stars is a fundraiser for the Ludington Area School District’s Oriole Foundation. Eight couples will be performing and competing for donations to the foundation and for three trophies: Judges’ Choice, Most Entertaining and People’s Choice.

“We thank the people who organized this event. They do so much good for the school and the community, and we wanted to help support them,” Tad said.
