Large Item Collection Dates Set In W-B

WILKES-BARRE — Mayor Tony George’s Office has announced large item collection dates for neighborhoods that have no had the pickups yet this year. Residents in the South Wilkes-Barre Zone 2 neighborhood with a weekly Thursday collection day, who purchase Large Item Collection Stickers, will have their items collected on Monday beginning at 7 a.m. Tickets for this neighborhood must be purchased by 3 p.m. Friday. Residents in the East End, Parsons and Miners Mills neighborhoods with a weekly Friday collection day, who purchase Large Item Collection Stickers, will have their items collected on Oct. 15 beginning at 7 a.m. Tickets for this neighborhood must be purchased by 3 p.m. on Oct. 12. Stickers can be purchased at the tax office, 1st floor, City Hall, 40 E. Market St., between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, or at Hollenback Golf Course from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week. Only cash, checks and money orders payable to “The City of Wilkes-Barre” will be accepted. Permit stickers are $10 per item or container (65-pound maximum per container). There is a limit of one item/container per sticker, and two stickers per household. Stickers must be attached to each item/container. Commercial properties and high rises are excluded from the pickup. Examples of items accepted include furniture, mattresses and large appliances. Unacceptable items include electronics such as TVs, microwaves and computers, rugs, lamps, tires, car batteries and recyclables.
