Nadeau, Halme among 4 K’s cuts
The decisions are getting more difficult and that shows in the cuts made today by the Komets, who released forwards Mathieu Nadeau, Jake Hauswirth and Chase Phelps, and defenseman Oskari Halme. That brings the roster to 22, which means two or three must go before Friday’s opener at Indianapolis. One of those will likely be a goaltender. And, of course, the Komets could still bring in more players from other teams or from the American Hockey League’s Chicago Wolves.
The most surprising cut here was Nadeau, who clearly had great offensive skill. But to keep him would have meant making very surprising cut, along the lines of Taylor Crunk. Halme has terrific offensive ability for a blue-liner, but I feel like he needs seasoning at the Southern Professional Hockey League level.
Remember, there’s always at least one shocking cut. It’s yet to come.
Note: Despite what the Komets told me Monday, they are now saying the trade of Charley Graaskamp to Greenville was for cash.
