BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) _ Nate Holmstad scored 25 points and grabbed 14 rebounds Saturday as Montana State rallied to edge Portland State 61-59.

MSU (16-12 overall, 10-5 Big Sky) led 54-50 on a field goal by Holmstadt with 2:59 remaining.

Portland State (9-17, 6-10) hit 3-pointers on their next three possessions to pull within 60-59 in a trey by Mike Vanderhoff with 57 seconds remaining.

Montana State turned the ball over with 20 seconds left and PSU played for a final shot, but Derek Nesland missed a running jumper in the lane.

Scott Harry grabbed the rebound and was fouled with 1.4 seconds remaining. He made the front end of the one-and-one, and intentionally missed the second shot, giving PSU no time to set up a final shot. PSU had used all its time-outs.

The Bobcats led 27-26 with 3:03 left in the first half, but PSU’s Jamie Snook hit two 3-pointers to give PSU a 32-27 halftime lead.

Harry finished with 13 points and four assists for MSU, which is tied for second in the league standings with Montana.

Vanderhoff led Portland State with 18 points, followed by Brian Towne with 14. It is Portland State’s first year in the Big Sky, and the Vikings are not eligible for post-season play.
