More than 900,000 pounds of unused, unwanted or expired prescription medication was collected across the country during the Drug Enforcement Agency’s Drug Take Back event last month.
The agency destroyed more than 457 tons of leftover medications collected Oct. 27, according to a news release.
In Pennsylvania, nearly 36,000 pounds of medications were collected.
Nearly 11 million pounds of medications nationwide have been collected through 16 semi-annual events since the fall of 2010, the release stated. About 484,000 pounds of that has been disposed of in Pennsylvania.
