DUESSELDORF, Germany (AP) _ Jonathan Quinn connected with Ahmad Merritt for a 27-yard touchdown in the third quarter, leading the Berlin Thunder to a 23-17 win Saturday against the Duesseldorf Rhein Fire in NFL Europe.

The pass by the Jacksonville Jaguars' quarterback, who had thrown for a league best 686 yards and six touchdowns in his first three games, put Berlin up 20-10 against its the Fire.

It came right after Duesseldorf (1-3) had closed to within a field goal on Michael Lewis's 12-yard scoring reception.

Berlin (2-2) also got two field goals, along with a 1-yard touchdown run from Rodnick Phillips, as the defending World Bowl champion dropped its third straight.

An 18-yard field goal by 51-year-old Duesseldorf kicker Manfred Burgsmuller broke the league's career scoring record of 235 points held by former Frankfurt Galaxy kicker Ralf Kleinmann.
