Coward man charged with kidnapping, domestic violence
FLORENCE, S.C. -- A Coward man is being held without bail after he was arrested Thursday on one count each of domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature and kidnapping.
Joshua Thomas Rothwell, 49, of 4835 Fowler Road, was arrested by domestic violence investigators with the sheriff’s office in connection with a Dec. 1 incident, according to a release from the agency.
“Rothwell is alleged to have had a verbal and physical altercation with a domestic partner. When the victim attempted to leave the location, Rothwell is alleged to have grabbed and struck the victim in the face with a baseball bat several times and caused the victim to black out by strangulation,” according to the release.
“Investigators further allege that Rothwell disabled the victim’s cell phone to prevent a call for help and refused to allow the victim to leave or seek medical attention for several days. The victim was ultimately able to leave the residence and contacted law enforcement,” according to the release.
He faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted of kidnapping, up to 20 years if convicted of the domestic violence charge.
