2 charged in alleged Vermilion County escape plot
DANVILLE, Ill. (AP) — Vermilion County authorities say two men are charged in a plot to help one of them escape from jail.
The (Danville) Commercial-News reported Wednesday that (http://bit.ly/1D63IdA ) the scheme allegedly unfolded when 19-year-old Tyler Jones of Danville was placed in a holding cell awaiting his scheduled release on Tuesday in a traffic case.
Capt. Rod Kaag says Jones switched shirts with another man, who stepped forward when a corrections officer called out Jones’ name. Twenty-year-old Larry Woodard was released instead of Jones.
Authorities say Jones then began banging on the cell, asking why he hadn’t been released.
The newspaper reports that Jones was charged with aiding an escape. Woodard was later arrested and charged with escape.
Woodard originally was jailed for failing to appear for drug court hearings.
