Suspect in fatal accident still on run 2 years later
CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (AP) — Relatives of a Pawtucket man killed by a drunken driver two years ago say the suspect’s disappearance is keeping them from getting some closure and finding forgiveness.
Gary Laramee was struck by a car in Central Falls in January 2016 and died three days later. He was 51. He would have turned 54 on Monday.
The driver, Rigoberto Vasquez, but was arrested a short time later several blocks away. He was arraigned and released. He hasn’t been seen since. He’s charged with driving under the influence, death resulting, and other offenses.
Laramee’s family keeps a tree near the accident site decorated as a memorial.
His brother, Mike Laramee, told WPRI-TV that it’s difficult knowing Vasquez is still on the loose.
Central Falls police believe Vasquez may have fled the country.
