Ohio woman accused of murder-for-hire plot

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio — A woman is charged with conspiracy to commit murder after investigators say she plotted to have another woman killed.

Jody Back, 49, is being held in jail on a $250,000 bond after being arraigned Monday morning in Middletown Municipal Court, according to the Journal News.

WLWT Channel 5 reports that Back thought she was talking with a professional hitman but it instead was an undercover police informant.

Police say Back met with the informant on Sept. 26, 27 and 28 and agreed to sign over her home as payment to have a woman killed.

Detectives say Back had papers notarized to transfer the property. Officials tell WLWT that the home is in very poor condition.

The Journal News says the woman reportedly targeted by Back was a former friend who had filed for custody of Back’s child. She tells the Journal News that Back accused her of kidnapping the child.

She said she was upset when detectives told her there was a plot to have her killed.

“I just started bawling,” she tells the Journal News. “How do I know she didn’t talk to someone else? How do I know I am safe?”

Neighbors of Back say they find the charges difficult to comprehend.

″(She’s) like, a really nice person,” Justin Florian tells WLWT. “She’s not the type of person to pay somebody to kill somebody.”
