A special day for the animals

October 5, 2018

The lawn in front of the Rectory at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church had lots of pets waiting to be blessed Thursday in honor of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi.

St. Francis is the patron saint of animals, and is his feast day is a popular day for pets to be “blessed”

The Rev. Gregory Wilson, pastor of St. Mary, gave the blessing as he sprinkled holy water over the animals receiving the blessing.

God redeemed all, including the animals, he said during the ceremony.

Father Raymond Flores, parochial vicar at St. Mary who also participated, said “Our pets are a wonderful reminder of God’s love that we must take care of.”
