Sailor’s Wife Charged With Bilking In-Laws Of $3,100
ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. (AP) _ A woman who married a sailor after a whirlwind courtship has been arrested as a fugitive in New Jersey after being accused of bilking the man’s family of $3,100, then disappearing.
Oakland County authorities, who issued a warrant earlier this week charging Wendy Jo George, 26, with larceny over $100, said they will seek her extradition from New Jersey.
She has a history of marrying sailors after brief courtships and then taking their money, and is under investigation on similar charges in Jacksonville, Fla., police said.
George, who also goes by the names of Wendy Costin and Wendy Morgan, was arrested Wednesday by FBI agents at a boarding house in Camden, N.J.
She married Christopher George, 21, of Rochester Hills on July 15 after a three-week romance, Oakland County sheriff’s officials said. The sailor returned to duty a few days later and left his bride with his parents in Rochester Hills.
Police said she told her in-laws Oct. 8 that she was going to visit her parents in Pittsburgh, but she never returned.
She is accused by authorities of taking at least $500 in cash, making large withdrawals from bank teller machines and making charges on the Georges’ credit cards, police said.
