2 arrested after early-morning chase
Two people were arrested early today after leading Fort Wayne police on a chase that ended in a field on the city’s southeast side, police said.
Around 12:25 a.m., city police on patrol noticed a dark-colored Dodge Durango that had been reported stolen heading west on East Creighton Avenue. Officers initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of South Hanna and St. Martins Street, but the vehicle : driven by Christopher Zerler : did not pull over, police said.
When the SUV stopped in a field on Autumn Lane near McMillen Park, the passenger, identified as Brandy L. Howard, 38, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine after officers found a white crystal-like substance in a teal polka-dotted backpack located on the passenger side floorboard. The driver of the Durango, Christopher Zerler, 31, ran and was arrested shortly after near the McMillen Park Community Center.
According to court documents, Zerler was charged with being a felon carrying a handgun, possession of methamphetamine, resisting law enforcement and leaving the scene of an accident.
