Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant coming to Orange Village

ORANGE VILLAGE, Ohio – Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant is opening its first location in Northeast Ohio across from Pinecrest development in Orange Village.

A rep for the company says no official opening date is set. Construction is under way.

Cooper’s Hawk was founded in 2005. It takes a proprietary approach to its wine offerings, with more than 40 blends and varietals, ranging from sparkling to sweet to fruit to dry. Its website says the company “benefits from not owning our own vineyard or buying from one large supplier.” Cooper’s Hawk Winery produces around 573,000 cases annually.

A year ago, the NWI Times of Northwest Indiana reported Cooper’s Hawk would open five locations in 2018, saying it produces more than 5 million bottles per year at a facility in Countryside, Illinois, a Chicago suburb. The paper says it sources grapes from all over, including Chile, France, Italy, Australia and California, “making it the 31st-largest winery in the United States and the fifth-largest winery outside of California.”

Cooper’s Hawk also offers a wine club with several levels.

Interestingly, while it doesn’t go as far as, say, Chez Francois, the restaurant’s site lists a fairly specific dress code. Jackets and ties are not required but it restricts “provocative or revealing” clothing as well as apparel deemed offensive. Chez Francois in Vermilion is one of the few restaurants in Ohio that requires jackets for men.

Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant is directly across the Pinecrest development’s entrance on Harvard Road off of Interstate 271. It is located in the Chagrin Highlands South development.

Competition for diners’ dollars and attention definitely exists in the area. The Pinecrest development is burgeoning as a retail-dining-entertainment complex, with multiple options for craft beer, wine and food. Wine in particular is a focus at several places: Pinstripes’ wine room is climate-controlled, for instance, and Firebirds Wood Fired Grill offers different sized pours.

Cooper’s Hawk has more than 30 locations in nine states, including three in Ohio: Cincinnati, Columbus and Liberty Township, which is about 20 miles north of the Cincinnati restaurant.
