Eynon-Archbald Lions Club Plans Annual Snowflake Gala
This week, staff writer Laura Rysz talks with Louis J. Rapoch about the Eynon-Archbald Lions Club annual Snowflake Gala benefiting Leader Dog for the Blind.
Professional background: Funeral director and owner and operator of Louis J. Rapoch Funeral Home, Archbald
Title: Event co-chairman with wife, Karen
Q: How has this event grown over the years?
A: Because of continued work and dedicated Lions Club members and with the support and generosity of local business and residents, Eynon-Archbald Lions Club is ranked second internationally in donations to Leader Dog for the Blind. This is an honor and tribute we wish to uphold for Northeast Pennsylvania. We make every effort to keep the event at a favorable cost so that all may be able to attend and enjoy an evening of fun while contributing to a worthy cause.
Q: Tell us about Leader Dog for the Blind.
A: Leader Dog for the Blind is a nonprofit organization located in Rochester Hills, Mississippi, that breeds and trains dogs to be the answer for people who are blind or visually impaired. Because we believe every person deserves equal opportunity for independent travel, Leader Dog for the Blind services are provided at no cost, covering expenses for training, room and board and travel from anywhere in North America. The program allows for a life of confidence, independence and safe mobility. More information is located at leaderdog.org. Here you will find photos of clients, trainers and dogs destined for greatness.
Q: What will be on hand at the fundraiser?
A: The 2019 Snowflake Gala will feature passed hors d’oeuvres, chef-inspired dinner, open bar, dancing with the Wanabees and Top Shelf Entertainment with DJ Kris Sheridan. The room will be decorated by Ros-Al Floral with photography by Mike and Kathy Haffner, signature cocktail, raffles, silent auction and opportunity to win a cash umbrella and a cruise package. There also will be a brief Lions Club program with guest speaker Jeff Hawkins with his Leader Dog, Gracie.
Q: What is your fundraising goal?
A: Our club wants to make sure everyone who attends has a great time. We hope to raise the same if not more then we raised in 2018, which was $20,000.
Q: How will the proceeds be used?
A: All money contributed goes directly to the Leader Dog for the Blind organization. Our goal is to make a significant difference in someone’s life and make them unstoppable. We are still accepting monetary donations or sponsor ads for our booklet.
