Warriors 104, Magic 89
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) _ The Golden State Warriors won for the first time in the post-Sprewell era and earned their first home victory of the season Friday night with a 104-89 defeat of the injury-depleted Orlando Magic.
Donyell Marshall had 28 points and Joe Smith added 24 as the Warriors won for just the second time this season. Brian Shaw, starting in the spot vacated by Latrell Sprewell, added 15 points.
Rony Seikaly had 29 points for the Magic. Penny Hardaway missed the game with tendinitis in his left knee and Derek Strong did not play in the second half after twisting his right knee in the second quarter.
It was the first game since the Warriors terminated Sprewell’s $32 million contract and the NBA slapped the three-time All-Star with a one-year suspension for attacking coach P.J. Carlesimo.
Sprewell also missed Wednesday’s loss to Cleveland while sitting out the first game of what was to be a 10-game suspension. After that game, the Warriors announced they had fired him.
