Registered sex offender charged in new Columbia County sex assault case

A registered sex offender from Pardeeville has been charged in a new sexual assault case and released from jail after posting $20,000 cash bond.

Michael C. Krejchik, 44, is charged with a felony count of incest with a child after a woman reported sexual assaults that happened between August 2007 and September 2008. He posted bond Friday for his release. Krejchik previously was convicted in Illinois in 2012 of transporting a minor for sexual conduct.

Krejchik registered as a sex offender in 2012, according to the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry.

A criminal complaint filed Friday says Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputies made contact with a 24-year-old woman who reported Krejchik assaulted her on multiple occasions when she was a child.

The alleged victim told deputies she would “go to a happy place where nothing was happening” when the assaults occurred, according to the complaint.

The woman also told deputies she decided to come forward after Krejchik was convicted of sexually assaulting her friend several years earlier.

Deputies contacted Krejchik on Feb. 25, and according to the complaint, he told deputies he recalled assaulting the girl five or seven times, with two of those assaults taking place at a residence in Pardeeville.

The Journal Star in Peoria, Illinois, reported in 2012 that Krejchik was sentenced to seven years in federal prison for having sex with a 16-year-old girl at a truck stop in Minonk, Illinois, in 2010.

Krejchik was working as a truck driver at the time. The Journal Star reported Krejchik brought the girl with him during an out-of-state trip.

The case was prosecuted at a federal level because the 16-year-old girl had been taken across state lines.

If convicted of the latest felony charge, Krejchik could face up to 40 years in prison and $100,000 in fines.

Krejchik is scheduled to return to court May 1.
