Authorities: Man convicted of raping 76-year-old neighbor
TIERRA AMARILLA, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say a New Mexico man has been convicted of raping his elderly neighbor.
First Judicial District Attorney Marco Serna announced the conviction Monday against Jason Cordova, calling the crime “disgusting” and “horrific.”
Authorities say Cordova forced his way into his neighbor’s home in El Llano, a small, unincorporated community in northern New Mexico, and sexually assaulted her in May 2016.
Prosecutors say he also struck and fractured the 76-year-old woman’s face, causing damage that is likely permanent and required her to undergo reconstructive surgery. Now 80, the victim has vision and hearing loss as a result of the attack.
Cordova was found guilty following a jury trial of aggravated burglary, rape, aggravated battery, and tampering with evidence.
