Horse racing is looking for stronger footing on the national sports landscape and track owners hope the Supreme Court’s decision to lift the band on sports betting provides a tremendous opportunity for the sport. Race tracks in many states will be among the first to allow sports gambling. Track owners believe this is an advantage since many racetracks already offer casino gaming with slot machines and table games — popularly known as racinos. By Gary Graves. BALTIMORE — Pimlico Race Course is all gussied up again this week, ready to host the Preakness on a day that will enable the 148-year-old track to survive another year. Old Hilltop is beginning to show its age, however, and it will cost an estimated $300 million to make it right.
