6 rescued from river after getting caught in logjam

July 30, 2018

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Six people were rescued from the Yellowstone River after their float party was snagged on tree roots from a logjam.

The Billings Gazette reports Billings Fire Department Battalion Chief Kevin Johnson says no one was injured Sunday in the incident.

Most of the group was stranded near the Old Washington Bridge in Billings, between Riverfront and Coulson parks. One person was pushed about 100 yards (91.4 meters) farther downstream and landed on another logjam.

Rescuers used jet skis and an off-duty fire captain’s jet boat to get the group to safety.

The people rescued were using either float tubes or rafts. Three of the six were wearing life jackets.
