BC-FBH--Texas APSE All-State Football Nominations,ADVISORY

November 25, 2018

Texas high school football editors and writers:

The deadline for nominations for the Texas Associated Press Sports Editors all-state high school football teams is Tuesday, Nov. 27.

Please email the nominations to djimenez50@gmail.com and sdixon@ap.org. We will have all-state teams for all five 11-man classifications. We don’t have a six-man all-state team.

Please do not simply forward emails from coaches. We need you to get the nominations in our format shown below, and we need you to screen the nominations based on the guidelines listed near the end of this advisory.

STATS MUST BE REGULAR SEASON ONLY. We kindly ask that nominations adhere to the style and format required by our online voting system. Note that each nomination must be short, with a maximum of 90 characters. Don’t include height and weight. All-district mentions are unnecessary unless it’s an offensive lineman who was the MVP, or a defensive MVP with limited stats.

Some examples (be sure to note classifications and positions, ideally as a header above the nominations at each position; and take extra time to make sure the players are in the right classification; we don’t have a lot of time to double-check that):

3A RUNNING BACKS

John Doe, Cisco, Sr. — 1,432 rushing yds, 23 TDs; 324 receiving yds, 4 TDs

3A QUARTERBACKS

Jack Smith, Muleshoe, Sr. — 144-of-203 passing, 2,345 yds, 34 TDs; 435 rush yds, 5 TDs

5A RECEIVERS

Jerry Harris, Tyler, Soph. — 54 catches, 1,032 yds, 11 TDs; 324 rush yds, 3 TDs

3A OFFENSIVE LINEMEN

Zack Livings, New Diana, Jr. — 43 pancakes, graded 85 percent; 0 sacks allowed in 2 seasons

4A LINEBACKERS

Justin Konzen, Salado, Sr. — 130 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 INTs, 15 TFL, 2 fumbles caused, 2 fumbles recovered

Here are some of the guidelines we will use. You can save us some time by deleting anyone who doesn’t meet these:

—Running backs must have at least 1,000 yards rushing.

—Quarterbacks must have either 1,000 yards rushing or 1,000 yards passing.

—Receivers must have either 700 yards receiving or 10 touchdowns.

—There will be no more than two players from the same school at any position (seniority will eliminate extra players in cases where stats can’t do it; after that, it’s our discretion).

—There is no utility spot for the “tweeners” and no kick returners. Look for other potential ways to nominate such players.
