New Jersey man sought in girlfriend’s slaying surrenders
GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a New Jersey man sought in the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend is now in custody in Ohio.
Camden County prosecutors announced Sunday that 27-year-old Hector Sanchez is awaiting extradition back to New Jersey. He’s facing a murder charge in the death of 42-year-old Leydy Barahona.
Sanchez allegedly stabbed Barahona several times during an argument Thursday inside their unit at the Millbridge apartments in Gloucester Township. Authorities say he then fled the complex in her SUV and soon left the state, but turned himself in Friday to police in Cleveland.
Prosecutors had announced Saturday that they were looking for the SUV but did not disclose then that Sanchez was already in custody. The SUV was found Saturday night in the parking lot of a Walmart store in Somerdale.
