Nonschool-day workshops to keep kids busy launched at NIU
DeKALB – Those days when your middle schooler has off, but you don’t, are coming. Northern Illinois University is launching a program that can keep kids busy and learning, while you go to work.
The workshops, which will provide a combination of digital design education and fun, will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on days when students in DeKalb School District 428 don’t have classes, including teacher in-service days and spring break. Most of those dates coincide with the Sycamore School District 427 schedule, as well, according to a news release from NIU.
Students will learn different ways to use digital media for design and gain hands-on experience with skills such as video game design, virtual world development and stop-motion animation, the release said.
