Teays Physical Therapy Center Inc. and the Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s male Gamer of the Week to junior Treven Taylor of Hurricane High School.

Treven is having a great start to the season with the Redskins wrestling team. So far in his junior season, he is undefeated and sitting at 5-0 after this weekend’s Ellis Invitational Tournament.

Treven wrestles in the 138-pound weight class. Due to Treven’s high dedication to his sport, he wrestles year round outside of his high school season and this has left him little time to play other sports or participate in other clubs.

Treven is a key leader on the team for the Redskins and is very happy with how the season is going.

One of his biggest goals for himself is to place well in states.

“I have high plans for this year and I really hope to place high in states and possibly get to the championship,” he said.

He has had a few injuries in the years past that have proven to be challenging to overcome, but that hasn’t stopped Treven and his passion for wrestling to keep going. His motto that he goes by is “an angry mind is a narrow mind.” He uses this to remind him to tame his anger and channel it.

The Redskins coach, Duane Talley, had great things to say about Treven.

“He is an extremely smart kid. He is a leader on the team and is definitely one of the hardest working kids in the practice room and it shows,” Talley said.

In regards to the season, Duane and Treven have a similar mindset, both stating the team is very young and has a lot of growing room. They both hope to get more kids out to the wrestling team and fill up more of the weight classes.

Treven is the son of Tracey Carnes and Jeremy Taylor, who are both huge motivators and push him to be his best; his father is the one who introduced him to wrestling years ago. Although he is just a junior, Treven has big plans for college. He would like to go to the Naval Academy or go to WV Tech, where he will participate on the wrestling team and major in electrical engineering.

We wish Treven and the rest of Hurricane’s wrestling team good luck with the rest of their season!

Please look for other local high school athletes to be named in next week’s Male Gamer of the Week Sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. & The Putnam Herald.

Bekah Warrington ATC, PES, is a Certified Athletic Trainer at the Teays Physical Therapy Center and assists with the Potential Plus Program.
