2 More Teens Plead In Rape Case
DETROIT (AP) _ Two young men accused of having sex with underage girls in a scandal in the wealthy suburb of Grosse Pointe Woods have pleaded guilty to lesser charges.
Daniel Raymond, 19, and his cousin, James Raymond, 19, pleaded guilty Wednesday to contributing to the delinquency of a minor. They agreed to serve 60- to 90-day jail terms, and will be sentenced Oct. 26.
Three 14-year-old girls told authorities that the Raymonds and two other teens gave them alcohol and had sex with them last winter. All four young men were charged with statutory rape, punishable by 15 years in prison.
The girls came forward after the Grosse Pointe North High School yearbook was published with a picture of 18-year-old Daniel Granger apparently exposing himself.
Granger, the Class of 1998 president, pleaded guilty two weeks ago to the same lesser charge. He agreed to serve a 90- to 180-day jail term and will be sentenced Oct. 14.
The fourth defendant, Robert Cooper, 18, will also strike a plea deal next week, his lawyer said.
The outcome was fine with one of the girls, who attended Wednesday’s hearing involving the Raymonds.
``That’s the one thing I wanted out of all of this. I wanted them to admit it,″ she said.
