West Virginia man dies after domestic violence dispute
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia police say a man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after assaulting his estranged wife.
Bridgeport Police Chief John Walker told news outlets the man carried a 9-millimeter handgun as he forced his way inside the woman’s home and assaulted her on Saturday.
Walker said the man told the woman he would shoot himself if police showed up. The woman escaped the house and heard a gunshot.
Walker says police brought in the SWAT team and spent three hours trying to contact the man before entering the home and finding him dead on the floor.
Police haven’t released the suspect’s name yet.
