Greyhound Bus Slams Into Tractor-Trailer Injuring 17 People
DENISON, Texas (AP) _ A chartered Greyhound bus rammed the back of a tractor-trailer rig Monday and ran into a ditch, injuring 17 people, authorities said
The accident occurred near the Oklahoma border on U.S. Highway 69-75, said Department of Public Safety investigator Steve Shatley.
The 28 passengers had left Chicago at noon Sunday and were en route to visit relatives in South Texas, the DPS said.
Authorities said the bus hit the back of an 18-wheeler that had just pulled out of a truck stop. The bus went out of control and ran off the road into a shallow ditch.
Bus driver Janette Nadine Bruno, 41, of Owasso, Okla., was pinned in the wreckage for nearly two hours and later underwent surgery for for multiple internal and external injuries. Most of the other injuries were minor.
