Faretra, Westford Clip Cambridge

October 6, 2018

CAMBRIDGE -- Westford Academy visited Cambridge Rindge & Latin Friday night and notched a convincing 34-6 victory. Led by junior quarterback Nick Faretra, who threw for two touchdowns and rushed for two more, the Ghosts looked solid on both sides of the ball.

Westford improved to 2-3 while Cambridge fell to 1-4.

Faretra (4-for-10) connected with Adam Ohanian on the Ghosts’ first possession and the Chris Kennedy kick capped a near five-minute drive that covered 60 yards. Westford scored again in the second quarter when Faretra rushed from the 22 yards out for a touchdown to give Westford a 14-0 lead.

Cambridge’s lone score was on its first play of the second half when senior Troy Nickens took the ball 74 yards. The missed kick left the Falcons at six points where they would remain for the balance of the night.

Westford went up 21-6 midway through the third quarter on another Faretra rush for a score and what would be an 18-carry, 118-yard night for the WA quarterback.

Michael Kennedy made a great catch on a 13-yard Faretra pass early in the final quarter and Tyler Bella finished a very positive Grey Ghost night with a 15-yard rush behind key blocks with 1:36 left in the game.

Sophomore Nathan Fischer played a huge role in opening holes for Westford rushers including Nicholas Antes and Tyler Bella.

Outstanding defensive plays included Scott Beattie’s pass coverage and tackles by Nicholas Antes and Adam Ohanian.

Westford will finally play its first game at home next week against Lincoln-Sudbury.
