TOKYO (AP) _ Bayern Munich of Germany won the Toyota Cup on Tuesday, defeating Boca Juniors of Argentina 1-0 on a goal by Samuel Kuffour in the 19th minute of overtime.

In a game between the European and South American champions, Kuffour scored during a goalmouth scramble following a scoreless regulation.

The goal by the defender from Ghana started on a corner kick by Niko Kovac. A header by teammate Claudio Pizarro was then deflected off the line by Boca defender Clemente Rodriguez.

Before a National Stadium crowd of 51,360, Bayern dashed the hopes of a second straight victory by Boca coach Carlos Bianchi. His team beat Spanish power Real Madrid last year.

Bayern also won this event in 1976 when a team led by Franz Beckenbauer defeated Brazil's Belo Horizonte. The only other German winner is Dortmund in 1997.

``I was confident of that our players were up to the physical challenge,'' Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld. ``But I had my doubts about their will to win.''

Bayern was depleted by injuries and did not solidify its attack until Boca's Marcelo Delgado was removed for his second yellow card at the end of the first half.

``After that, the balance crumbled and the flow of the game shifted in their favor,'' Bianchi said. ``If we had been at full strength, I think we could have beat them.''
