CEDAR GROVE, Wis. (AP) _ More than two dozen vehicles crashed on a foggy interstate Friday morning, killing at least one person and sending a dozen others to hospitals, authorities said.

At least eight vehicles caught fire, and Interstate 43 was closed near the Sheboygan-Ozaukee county line, about 60 miles north of Milwaukee.

``I have been told there are fatalities. No number given,″ said Robert Young, deputy superintendent of the Wisconsin State Patrol.

There was no immediate word from three area hospitals on the extent of the injuries.

``Everything is pretty much confusion,″ Young said.

The accident involved at least 25 vehicles, according to the State Patrol. A hazardous materials team was called to the scene because a semi carrying carbon dioxide was in danger of tipping over, Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Captain Dave Adams said.

``It’s very chaotic out there,″ Adams said. ``It’s very foggy.″

Bonnie Depies, who works at a gas station about a mile from the crash scene, said fire departments had put out the fires by midmorning.

``You could see black smoke through the fog,″ she said.
