Roberta Elaine Coats Nailing, 48, of Kankakee, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday (Aug. 30, 2018) from Presence St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, until the noon funeral service at Jones Funeral Home in Kankakee. The Rev. Montele Crawford will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded after the service.
Elaine was born Sept. 13, 1969, in Cairo, Ill., the daughter of Ethel Coats Flynn and Robert Harbor.
She attended Kankakee School District 111, where she received various recognitions for her singing ability. Elaine graduated from Cairo School District 1, then went on to secure her CNA license. She had been employed by a newspaper in Cairo before moving back to Kankakee, where she was employed by Royal Health Care.
Elaine was married to Wilbur Deon Nailing Jr. in Mount Vernon on Oct. 10, 1997.
She loved singing, cooking, watching television, being around children and taking care of people who needed her help.
Roberta Elaine leaves to cherish her memory her mother and stepfather, Ethel and Willie Flynn, of Kankakee; husband, Wilbur, of Mattoon; sisters, Stacy Burkhammer (Torenzo), of Fairburn, Ga., and Katrina Harbor, Cameal Derixson and Roberta Benita Derixson, all of Mount Vernon; stepsister, Sharette Flynn, of Bastrap, La.; brothers, Cedric Coats, of Marienville, Pa., and Robert Winston, of Mount Vernon; aunts, Lavern Robinson, of Newark, N.J., and Carolina Herman, of Kankakee; special nieces, Grace Burkhammer, of Fairburn, Ga., Simone Wade, of North Carolina, and Carleka Coats, of Caruthersville, Mo.; nephew, Bassir Wade, of North Carolina; her very special friend, Timothy Davis, of Kankakee; five great-nieces and great-nephews; and many cousins and friends.
Preceding her in death were her grandparents; her father; sister, Debra Coats; aunts, Mary and Shirley Coats; and uncle, Clarence Powell.
