WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) _ Thomas Muster of Austria and Boris Becker of Germany, each a former top-ranked player, are standouts as far as the 1999 U.S. Open tennis tournament is concerned. They're the only two of the top 100 ranked players not entered.

Muster is currently ranked No. 84 on the ATP Tour, Becker No. 88.

Two of the 104 direct entries in the men's singles championships Aug. 30-Sept. 12 at the National Tennis Center are No. 1 Andre Agassi, the French Open champion and Wimbledon runner-up; and No. 2 Pete Sampras, the Wimbledon champion and four-time U.S, Open champion.

Also entered are defending champion Patrick Rafter of Australia and Australian Open champion Yevgeny Kafeinikov of Russia.
