4 Girls Found Dead in Calif. Home
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (AP) _ Four young girls died Wednesday in their suburban tract home after at least two small fires were apparently set inside the house, authorities said.
Arson and homicide detectives were waiting for a judge to sign a search warrant before entering the home.
A 34-year-old woman believed to be the girls’ mother and her 14-year-old son were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, said sheriff’s Sgt. David Halm. Both were listed in fair condition.
Firefighters and deputies responded to a 911 call from a woman who said her house was full of smoke and she couldn’t wake her sleeping children.
Lt. Frank Merriman said fires appeared to have been set in more than one location but were out when authorities arrived.
The girls were ages 6, 7, 10 and 12, said Deputy Cruz Solis.
The woman and her five children moved into the single-story house five months ago, neighbors said.
Save a blackened side window, the house showed no outward signs of fire damage.
