Boys soccer: Guardado, Wilke spark L-Cats’ win at Watertown
Senior midfielder Jerry Guardado and sophomore forward John Wilke each scored two goals for Lake Mills in a 6-4 nonconference boys soccer victory over Watertown on Tuesday at Landsverk Field.
Watertown (1-4) outshot Lake Mills 25-18 and held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks, but had trouble finishing shots and got scorched by the L-Cats (3-0-1) after breakdowns.
Sophomore forward Luis Guadalupe scored three minutes into the match to put Watertown up 1-0, but Guardado scored twice and senior midfielder Noah Mock also found the net as Lake Mills took a 3-1 lead into halftime.
Watertown pulled even on goals by senior forwards Griffin Meyer and Saul Pineda two minutes apart early in the second half, but Lake Mills regained the lead for good on the first of Wilke’s goals at the 50-minute mark.
Freshman forward Brayden Ciesiolka added an insurance goal for Lake Mills at 80 minutes.
The Goslings pulled within one on freshman forward Connor Lehman’s goal at 84 minutes, but Wilke iced the match with his second goal in the final minute of regulation.
On Thursday, Watertown travels to face Milton in the Badger South opener while Lake Mills hosts Columbus in a Capitol Conference match.
