Alex Smith graces Sports Illustrated cover
Alex Smith made the cover of Sports Illustrated this week for the first time in six years and the third time in his career. Unfortunately, the cover is a photo of the Redskins quarterback being eaten alive by Clay Matthews.
Smith joins an illustrious list of Redskins legends who have graced the magazine’s cover over the years, including John Riggins, Mark Rypien and Gary Clark.

A Redskin hasn’t made the cover since Robert Griffin III in 2013.
The cover shot, part of the magazine’sdeep dive on the NFL’s problems with protecting quarterbacks, shows Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews smashing Smith unceremoniously into the turf.
