It was Southern's first victory over the Mocs since Jan. 5, 1980.

Southern (9-16, 5-8 Southern Conference) led 34-31 at halftime and went ahead to stay 38-37 on two Frank Jackson free throws with 17:28 remaining.

The Mocs (18-9, 10-3) have already clinched the South Division title in the conference.
