New trash days start; recycling confounds

November 6, 2018

Monday marked the start of Fort Wayne’s new trash collection schedule, and although only some homes in a few neighborhoods did not set their garbage out, city officials said staff has noticed some confusion with recycling carts.

“In some areas, residents who have ‘B’ week recycling (next week) had their carts out today. Vice-versa, we also had some ‘A’ week neighborhoods where they did not set their carts out for Monday pickup today,” Matt Gratz, manager of the city’s Solid Waste Department, said in a statement. “We hope residents will re-check the postcard they received or check the website MyNewTrashDay.com to verify their recycling week.”

Each Fort Wayne resident received a postcard detailing their new trash and recycling collection day. “A” week recycling collection is identified with light blue numbers on the attached calendar. A home’s specific recycling collection day is denoted by a red box.

City officials also remind residents to set their carts out at the curb by 6 a.m. on collection day. When putting out both garbage and recycling carts, they should be placed at least 3 feet apart.
