Student Who Kicked Nun Sentenced
GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) _ An 18-year-old man who kicked a nun in the face when she confronted him during a robbery at a convent has been sentenced to 9 1/2 to 19 years in prison.
Alan T. Houser, a sophomore at Valley High School in New Kensington, was sentenced Wednesday by Westmoreland County Common Pleas Judge Gilfert Mihalich.
Houser told Mihalich he panicked after breaking into St. Joseph’s Convent in New Kensington, where he stole two purses and $54 from a nun’s room and kicked Sister Marie Denny in the face as he fled.
Houser pleaded guilty March 5 to robbery and other charges stemming from the October incident. He also pleaded guilty to robbing a man Nov. 5, 1985.
Houser said he needed money to buy drugs.
