Germany seeks information on reported drone death
BERLIN (AP) — German officials say they are seeking information from Pakistan on the fate of a German convert to Islam who reportedly was killed in a drone strike two years ago.
Interior Ministry spokesman Stefan Paris said Monday that a video released earlier this month by an extremist group, the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, reported the death. The daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung reported that the video identified the German as a victim of a February 2012 drone attack.
Paris says the German, identified only as Patrick N. in keeping with privacy rules, left for Pakistan at the end of 2011 and did not return. Relatives reported him missing.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Sebastian Fischer says Germany’s embassy in Islamabad is in contact with Pakistani authorities to clear up what happened.
