Air Force Jet Crashes in Florida
WASHINGTON (AP) _ An Air Force F-16 fighter plane crashed Thursday in a residential area near Pensacola, Fla., the Pentagon said.
The pilot apparently ejected, but there was no immediate word on his status, said Lt. Col. Virginia Pribyla, an Air Force spokeswoman.
There were unconfirmed reports that the plane crashed into a house and that the house was on fire, said Maj. Monica Aloisio, another Air Force spokeswoman. She said there may have been one casualty on the ground but that information was sketchy.
The F-16 was flying from Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., to Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., when it went down.
