BNF swimmers host Pius on Senior Night
The Beatrice Co-op swimming and diving team hosted their final home event of the year Monday night.
On senior night, both the girls and boys teams fell to Lincoln Pius X at the Beatrice YMCA. The girls team fell 96-74 while the boys team fell 111-55.
“Pius is always a strong team and gives our swimmers great competition,” said Beatrice coach Marian Wallen. “We knew we had the opportunity to compete with them and come away with a win, but things just didn’t go that way tonight. This was the first dual loss for our girl’s team.”
First place finishes for the team, which consists of athletes from Beatrice, Norris and Fairbury High Schools, included Mikwena Lierman in the 50-freestyle, Colton Starck in the 50-freestyle, Cameryn Wisnieski in diving, Hayden Stevens in diving, Crystal Craft in the breast stroke and the 200-freestyle relay team of Mikasa Lierman, Maya Moran, Laci Havlat and Mikwena Lierman.
Beatrice had several personal best swims, including Silas Jurgens in the 200 free; Jaidyn Vanschoiack in the 100 free, breast and 50 free; Gaby Wyrick in the 50 free and 100 free; Emily Mason in the 50 free; Brittney Ruh in the 50 free and 100 free; Sam Fortner in the 100 free and 50 free; Blaine Kujath in the 50 free; Averi Kolb- 100 fly; Chloe Bishoff in the 100 free; Kati Macklin in the 100 free and Maya Hutzler in the 100 free
Other personal best times include Abbie Galvin in the 100 free; Cameron Knepp in the 100 free; Haley York in the 500 free; RJ Suey in the 500 free; Issiah Jacobsen in the 500 free; Linea Edeal in the 100 backstroke; Ian Scheele in the 100 backstroke; David Gray in the 100 backstroke; Michael Walsh in the 100 breaststroke and Aiden Morrow in the 100 breaststroke
“I was extremely proud of the many swimmers setting personal records,” Wallen said.
It was a special night for the team in that it was the last home event for 16 seniors.
Seniors from Beatrice include Cameron Knepp, Courtney Knepp, Matthew Griffeth, Brittney Ruh, Silas Jurgens and Blaine Kujath.
Seniors from Fairbury include Colton Starck, RJ Suey and Mikasa Lierman.
Seniors from Norris include Lauren Havlat, Emily Mason, Jacob Mason, Carson Monhollon, Aiden Morrow, Michael Walsh and Haley York.
“We’ve watched them grow and improve throughout the years,” Wallen said. “Many have been state qualifiers. They are all a true assets to our team and we wish them the best in their futures.”
Next action for the BNF swimming and diving team will be this weekend at the Elkhorn Invite. Diving will be Friday at 5 p.m. with swimming taking place on Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
“Having three high schools, we have to deal with there different activity schedules, so we will be missing about 20 swimmers for this meet, due to other conflicts,” Wallen said. “We will strive to achieve personal best performances and new state qualifying times.”
