Browns’ QB Has Hairline Fracture in Leg
BEREA, Ohio (AP) _ Cleveland quarterback Kelly Holcomb sustained a hairline fracture in his right leg during Sunday’s game at San Francisco, but coach Butch Davis hasn’t ruled him out of the Browns’ upcoming game against Cincinnati.
Browns’ medical personnel told Davis there was a slight chance Holcomb could practice Wednesday.
Holcomb, who beat out Tim Couch for the starting job in training camp, was injured in the first quarter while making a quarterback sneak near his own goal line when 49ers defensive end Chidi Ahanotu fell on his leg.
Davis said Holcomb sustained ``a tiny, small hairline fracture″ of his fibula. He’ll undergo therapy and treatment the next two days.
Holcomb refused to come off the field and led the Browns to a stunning 13-12 win by throwing an 11-yard touchdown pass to Andre’ Davis with 29 seconds remaining.
If Holcomb can’t play Sunday against Cincinnati, Couch would start.
Last year, Holcomb broke his left leg while filling in against Baltimore after Couch suffered a concussion. Holcomb missed three weeks and didn’t play again until the final week of the season when Couch broke his leg against Atlanta.
